Catalyst

I am lucky to have a day job in which I can spend a lot of the time hacking in Perl.
Anyway, one of the things I am not so fond of is the current status of the codebase of our flagship product. As is probably the case with a lot of projects that have grown over several years, there are large parts of legacy code that, of course, work well but look really awkward. As the codebase is quite large you cannot just take it and rewrite it as a whole to comply to modern standards and coding guidelines. This being said, I am really looking forward to writing some code based on the Catalyst - Web Framework. It’s a pity that O’Reilly hasn’t published a printed book about catalyst yet, so I am currently digging into the documentation and tutorials avaliable online.

I am also luck to work for a company where I can hack in Perl and Catalyst Web Framework, the later making our main software extremely simple to modify and maintain. There has been a Catalyst book written by Johnathan Rockway (Catalyst core team member) and published by Packt Publishing. I would recommend it to anyone interested in Catalyst development.

I would also expect O’Reilly to publish something on Catalyst soon.

Thanks for that link, I just ordered my copy. If O’Reilly finally publishes a book on Catalyst, I’ll order that too.

Do you have some intelligence that lets you expect that O’Reilly will do so soon or is this just a gut instinct because Catalyst is that great and O’Reilly usually doesn’t lose out on convering great stuff in one or more books?
